Jonathan Widdicombe should indeed read Co.Down and not Devon.

Fixed!
Thanks for the clarification Smile

In the 1860s, myy great, great, grandfather, Daniel Sweeney was a Coast Guard at Torr head, County Antrim. By 1868 he was at Dunany Point. Along with four other men, he was drowned when their new cutter sank on the way back to Dunany from Soldier,s Point, Dundalk. Lewis parsons of the Coast Guard at Soldier's Point identified their bodies- two of these Coast Guards who lost their lives were: Henry Grinton, 2nd class chief officer of Coast Guards stationed at Dunany and James Claney, commission boatman of the same place. In another article the men are named as Henry Granton, Chief Officer, Daniel Sweeney, commissioned boat man, James Clancy commissioned boatman, James McCracken and Richard Frazer. I am able to find Henry Grinton on the list, above, but none of the other men. Were only officers listed? I want to know how many men would be at Torr head at any one time and when Loughlin McQuilkin was there.
