Built in the summer of 1863 and occupied on the 1st August 1863. The Pier commenced to be built for the Commissioners of Public Works by a contractor named Feeney on Monday 16th Nov. 1874 and the first vessel berthed along side with 130 tons of coal on Sat. the 27th May 1876. The pier cost £859-4-8 to build. The RNLI boathouse was built and in operation from 1880 to 1912. The houses are still standing and in use as private residances. There was coastguard watch station built at Giles Quay in 1827 provided with a cannon gun and the residences were said to be further up the hill pre. 1863
