MICHAEL JAMES MURRAY
highseas1
I am researching the above born Ballycotton Co Cork 31/10/1863. In 1901 Census he is a RN Pensioner.

I have obtained a record from Archives UK but it is very short. I am wondering did he serve in Coastguard? His record number is 124890.

The only information the record gives is that he served on THE INDUS from 20 Oct 1883 to 1st July 1884.

It says also that he was 10 years in Service!!!

Any information would be appreciated if available. Thank you.

I am researching a James Fenton, born Ballycotton 1845 - he had a son James (twin to my grandmother)
"My" James joined the navy at age 16. According to family stories he became a coastguard after that - in Cornwall, England.
Following family "naming pattern" it seems reasonable that "my" James had a father named James.
However "your" James would have been 18 at the time of "my" James birth.
Looking at "my" James' navy enlistment I can't decide whether he signed for himself or the signature was that of his father James.
