Hi All i was just wondering in around 1900 to 1920 or so how did one join the coastguard? i have heard most were former members of the royal navy. but i am unsure if this was true. what were the day to day duties of coastguards? did they carry armaments? i don't have any family links to the coastguard service. i have become interested in the subject as a friend of mine is living in an old coastguard barracks in east co cork. i know that coastguards lived there along with there wives and children. |
