A grt grt grand uncle of mine Capt George Thomas Jermyn 1785-1864 was described in the Treble Almanac for 1828 as a Tide surveyor for Kingstown. He was born in Castlecove near Sneem in Kerry and married an Anne Warburton in 1824. His eldest son David was born in Limerick in 1826 and his subsequent five children were all born in Dun Laoghaire David, the eldest, studied medicine and emigrated to Australia. His second son John Warburton Jermyn 1827-1901 appears to have gone to sea with his father before he and his siblings emigrated to Canada. According to a descendant of his in Canada, he brought with him a spyglass through which he saw a ship with their flag at half mast thus telling them of the death of the Prince Consort in 1861 I am looking for any information regarding these two men and if George Thomas had formerly been in the Royal Navy. If anybody can help I would greatly appreciate it Andrew |
