Hi Judith I have done a search of the CG records in ADM 175 and have put together Thomas' CG career. He was nominated to the CG service in March 1821 from the Isle of Man, with a first posting to Ravenglass in Cumbria. At some point, and I have not been able to find when, he was transferred to Helford in Cornwall, because it was from here on 3 Sept 1823 that he was transferred to Rhineshark(e) in Ireland. His next move was on 10 Oct 1823 when he was removed to the Island of Kane, from where on the 30 April 1826 he was sent to Bunmahon. The next transfer came on 31 August 1827 to Newcastle (Ireland) with the note 'Boat Builder' against his name, where he was subsequently promoted to Commission Boatman on 31 August 1831, remaining at the same station. However, it was not long before he was removed to Annalong on 10 October of the same year. The 7 December 1833 saw his return to England with a posting to Poole Harbour. He must have blotted his copy book here, because his record shows him being Dismissed following a Court of Inquiry. Unfortunately these is no date, or reason given for his dismissal. Thanks a lot . thats fantastic I don't know how you managed it but its great. This gentleman married my gt gt gt grand father's sister. I have recently made contact with one of Thomas Crellin's decendants who told me about Thomas being a coast guard. I have a little info on his son William but nothing on any other children of Thomas's . Now I have some idea where he was between 1815 when he married in Whitehaven and 1841 when he was back in the Isle of Man. I may be able for find more. Thanks again Judith |
