Has anyone come across Jeremiah Donovan in the Irish Coastguard. I am interested in Cornelius Driscoll one time Coastguard at Castletownsend Co cork, Cornelius had son Daniel born 1845 and Daniel's Godparents were Jeremiah and Ellen Donovan.. I wonder if Jeremiah was a fellow Coastguard? Simon Byant |

I've come across a Jeremiah Donovan dob 4 May 1829 Skibbereen Cork. According to ADM 175/44 pg 311 (book page 399) he was in Youghal in 1877 Edited by bpa on 25/02/2010 19:52 |

Simon There was a Jeremiah Donovan stationed at Crookhaven between 1840 and 1852, where he was first rated as a Commissioned Boatmen then Chief Boatman. He was discharged dead in 1852. He joined Crookhaven from Lydd, but from a search of his career I cannot find a period when he and CD served together, either in England or Ireland. Martin |

Thanks both of you! It is possible that the Jeremiah stationed at Crookhaven was the Godfather of Daniel. The other Jeremiah would have only been aged 16, maybe on the young side. I wonder if the 2 Jeremiah's were related? Plenty for me to think about Simon Bryant |

Do we know anything of the career of the Jeremiah Driscoll born 1829 and who was at Youghal in 1877 ? see the post from bpa above. Apart from that I need some instructions on how to search from these records. It seems very complicated Simon Bryant |

Doing a search as follows for Jeremiah Donovan 1800-1830 from Cork: http://www.nation...uerytype=1 Gives 3 Jeremiah Donovan with Navy/Coastguard records. For the 1829 You could buy ADM 188/68 which will give some posting summary or else you can download and go backwards through ADM 175/44 -> ADM 175/39 I was tracking a Jeremiah Donovan because I believe my "James Donovan" from Timoleague Cork had 2 brothers in Navy / Coastguard. There were one or two more occurrences of Jeremiah Donovan in the ADM 175 books but I need to go back to notes to find them. edit: Jeremiah Donovan but no date of birth so cannot be sure which one. ADM 175/19 on pages 94 & 169 of the PDF. From ?? "Terrible" Oct 1856 to Dingle From Dingle Sep 1861 to Courtmacsharry. edit2: Second Jeremiah Donovan I came across is in ADM 175/17 page 111 (also pg112 is a double scan) - written as Jerh Donovan. 15 Dec 1831 transferred from Kinsale to Barry's Cove Cork Kinsales. Removed to Worthing 20 Oct 1832. Edited by bpa on 04/03/2010 12:13 |
