I am trying to find any information in relation to my GGG-grandfather William Bond. He is listed as a Naval pensioner on his death certificate, dated 14th January 1865, age 73. so born c. 1792, and married to Lucy I know he was based in Dunmore, co. Waterford since the early 1840's as both his sons William and George were born there in 1843 and 1848. Both of whom became coastguards, whose records I have found with the help of this site. He is also listed as a tenant in Griffith's valuation in 1848 very close to the Coast-Guard Station in Dunmore. I have tried looking up the on-line records from Kew but cannot find anything. Hi Lucy I've tried to find William in the Establishment Books, assuming that he was stationed at or near Dunmore between 1843 and 1848, without any success. On the basis that many CG men remained close to their last station after retirement, I also went back twenty years, again without any success. I can only assume that William, while a naval pensioner, never served in the CG service. I did, however, find a William Bond, Gunner, who was serving on the Revenue Cruiser Adder in the early 1820's, but Adder was based in Yarmouth. This might be the same man, although you would have to try and trace his career from the Muster rolls at the National Archives to have any chance of proving/disproving if this is your GGG-Grandfather. The other possibility is that the estimated birth date is out by some years. There are a few William Bonds' whose pension applications are in ADM 29, but they were all born in the early 1800's. Hi Lucy, I am tracing various branches of my own family from Dunmore and was very interested in your posting as it also fills in some gaps in my research. My Grandmothers mother was Anne Bond and her fathers name was Thomas Bond. Other names in the family are William, Frederick and Mary to name but a few. Frederick and other family members I believe emigrated to Austrailia in the early 1900s from Dunmore. A William Bond was one of the last of the Bond name in Dunmore up to the 1930s. Some of the houses that they lived in are still there. The William that you mention going back to 1792 I believe is also a relation. Let me know if this is of any help to you. Brendan |
