Henry GILL born Ireland c1810
wendyms
Hi Guys

Just found this lovely website in my search for 3 x Grt Grandfather. I know he was born in Ireland c1810 then married a Devon lass call Jane. He died c1876.

Their first daughter Sarah Ann GILL was born in Motherconbe on the south Devon coast in Dec 1835. A son Henry Thomas Minhinnett GILL was born Mar 1837 but died in Oct 1837. A second son Samuel Richard Minhinnett GILL was born c1841 probably in an coastguard station in St Albans Head, Worth Matravers, Dorset.

The next to children were born in Ireland. Anna, possibly in Crookhaven c 1844 and Thomas c1853.

I have Census records for Henry (including the family) for 1841, 1861 and 1871. I have Jane in 1881 and 1891 in Devon.

Thanks to the people who posted the lovely photos of Crookhaven, it's looks a lovely place. I had been in contact with the Publican in the village there who had advised that the Coastguarg station had been turned into luxury apartments - they do look very nice.

I've done quite a bit of research on Crookhaven Coast Guard Station. My records are pretty complete from late 1830s to 1850s. I have not come across any Henry Gill having served there 1844-53. Are you sure it was Crookhaven? Station personnel records for this period are held in UK National Archives, Kew.

With regard to Crookhaven Coast Guard the photo's are on the "new" station completed in 1907. One house, the rocket shed and the boat house from the earlier station survive as holiday homes to the south of the "new" station.
