Maximilian Adolphus GLENNIE
Noreen
Hello EveryoneWink
I am new to the list and can't believe my great fortune in finding this forum, thank you to the founders!

I am researching the GLENNIE surname in the UK Scotland and Ireland.

My Grt Grt Grandfather Max GLENNIE served in the Coastguard as did his father Alexander GLENNIE before him.

I have followed Max's Coastguard Career from Scotland, Ireland and England
his DOB is 26Dec 1846
Peterhead Old Machar Aberdeen Scotland .

I am trying to establish his DOD thus far i can only ascertain it is before 1911 when his wife Annie is listed as a widow on the 1911 Engand Census.

I have his Coastguard dossier from National Archives, it has many things written on it that i do not understandFrown

I have uploaded the pdf file from the National Archives, in hopes that some kind person could help me make sense of where he was in a given time frame?
And what all the writings in his file mean?

I would appreciate any and all help and advice,
Most kind regards,
Noreen ATHERLEY

GrtGrtGrandaughter of Max GLENNIE and Annie RYLAND(s)

Hi Noreen ,
Just to let you know Maximillion & Annie were my Great Grandparents . One of their sons Edward John was my GrandFather. He married an Annie as well . He was born in a coastguard cottage in Cushendall in Northern Ireland.
Kind regards , Carol

Good Morning cousin Carol,

This is all so exciting!!

Max & Annie were my great grandparents also!
Their daughter Isabella was my grandmother on my mother's side (also an Annie) and your grandfather Edward's sister!

My dear niece Noreen, who was so clever to post on this forum, has been working diligently for more than 10 years digging and searching & she is
indeed a Master of uprooting!

I'm quite new to all of this so I defer to Noreen in keeping the contacts going & the info flowing....
I just wanted to jump in here for a moment & say hello to you and your sister Linda and introduce myself as well!

I've just emailed Noreen to tell her you have replied & I know she will be anxiously awaiting your email!!

Take care,
Very Best Regards,
Dawna BrownGrin

Hi Noreen

I don't know if you have now managed to establish Max's date of death, but I came across this site on another general genealogy forum, together with the following advice. A search of the index returned a certificate ref for Max.

http://pilot.fami...;c=1408347

From the index you need to take a note of the Registration District name, the year, the volume number and the page number. These details, together with the full name make a unique reference number which you can quote to the (Irish) GRO in order to obtain a copy of the birth certificate.

Certificate application forms can be downloaded from www.groireland.ie. There is no online ordering facility, however. You have to fill in the form and send it off with credit card details. Takes anything from two to six weeks. If you quote the reference number, a photocopy of the birth certificate costs just 4 Euros.

Tony/Philip: This site and information would be so useful to those researching their CG ancestors, could this info be included in a useful site link?

Regards

Martin

Welcome to the Forum.

There was an Alexander Glennie stationed at Peterhead between Sept. 1838 and Dec 1849, just to confirm Noreen's statement that Max's father was also a Coastguard. Alexander joined the CG service in February 1833, giving his place of birth as Aberdeen, and that he was single.

Alex Glennie is recorded in 1841 Scotland census in Peterhead occupation Coast Guard Service married to Elizabeth and two children - eldest Thomas is 2 yrs old.

The 1841 census has Alex born about 1816 but in 1851 Census he is born abt 1813.
